COSMETIC INGREDIENT LIST PREPARATION

CLOWNHAUS® offers Ingredient List Preparation support for cosmetic products that require their ingredient declarations to be assembled with greater precision, internal coherence, and technical discipline.

An ingredient list is not decorative label furniture. It is a formal declaration of composition, and weaknesses at this level can create avoidable confusion across artwork, compliance review, specifications, supporting files, and wider product documentation. This service is designed to help structure that declaration properly before inconsistency begins to multiply across the record.

A product may be well conceived and still be undermined by something as basic as a poorly assembled ingredient declaration. This service exists to prevent that.

COSMETIC INGREDIENT LIST PREPARATION

Ingredient List Preparation is a technical documentation service focused on assembling the product’s ingredient declaration in a clearer and more usable format.

It is intended for situations where the formula or supporting technical information exists, but the ingredient list itself still needs to be prepared, cleaned up, or structured more coherently for labeling or documentation purposes.

The objective is not merely to create a list that looks complete. It is to produce one that is more technically orderly and fit for downstream use.

ACCURATE & REGULATORY-COMPLIANT INCI LISTS

We specialise in accurately creating International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI) lists by carefully compiling product ingredient lists that comply with industry regulations, ensuring the precise identification and listing of ingredients used in your cosmetic products. By entrusting us with your INCI list creation, you can confidently communicate your products' composition, demonstrate regulatory compliance, and enhance customer transparency.

STRATEGIC INGREDIENT LIST PRESENTATION

We go beyond the standard INCI list creation. Our expertise allows us to legally modify existing ingredient lists to make them more attractive to customers. Leveraging the '1% Rule, which grants flexibility for ingredients present at less than (and not including) 1.0% w/w in a product formula, we can strategically optimise the order of these ingredients to enhance your product's visual appeal and trade secrecy. With our tailored approach, your ingredient lists can captivate customers while maintaining regulatory compliance and protecting proprietary information.

WHY DECLARATION QUALITY MATTERS

Ingredient declaration errors are easy to dismiss because they often appear small in isolation. In practice, they create broader problems than expected. A weak ingredient list can lead to inconsistencies across label artwork, technical records, PIF-related documentation, claims review, and internal product files.

Once those inconsistencies spread, they become more expensive to correct. Better declaration quality reduces that risk early and helps keep the wider product record more coherent.

WHO THIS SERVICE IS DESIGNED FOR

This service is suitable for founders, private label businesses, manufacturers, and cosmetic brands requiring technical support with ingredient declaration before labels or supporting documentation are finalised.

It is particularly useful where multiple versions of the formula are circulating, supplier information is fragmented, or the declaration has not yet been assembled into a clearer technical format.

  • Ingredient Declaration Assembly

This refers to building the ingredient declaration itself from the available product and raw material information. It involves consolidating the relevant ingredient data into a single formal declaration so that the product’s composition can be presented in a structured, usable format, rather than remaining scattered across supplier documents, formulation records, or draft artwork.

  • Review of Available Ingredient References

This involves examining the ingredient-related documentation already available for the product, such as supplier specifications, formulation sheets, raw material details, and supporting technical references. The purpose is to assess whether the available information is sufficient, internally consistent, and usable to prepare the ingredient declaration with greater confidence and clarity.

  • Ordering & Structuring of the Declaration

This focuses on organising the ingredient list into a clearer and more appropriate declaration format. It considers how the ingredients should be arranged so that the declaration reads properly as a formal cosmetic ingredient list rather than as a loose collection of material names or incomplete references. The goal is to create a declaration that is more orderly, legible, and fit for downstream labelling use.

  • Alignment with Supporting Technical Information

This refers to checking whether the ingredient declaration is consistent with the wider technical record behind the product. It assesses whether the declaration aligns with the formulation information, raw material references, and other supplied documentation, ensuring the list does not quietly contradict the records it is supposed to reflect.

  • Identification of Inconsistencies in the Supplied Record

This involves identifying areas where the supplied information does not fully agree with itself or where the record appears unclear, incomplete, or internally inconsistent. That may include naming mismatches, missing references, duplicate entries, outdated terms, or differences between versions of the formula. The purpose is to detect those weaknesses before they are embedded into the final declaration.

  • Preparation of a More Usable Declaration Format for Later Work

This refers to producing the ingredient declaration in a cleaner, more functional format that can be used more effectively in later stages, such as label development, compliance review, artwork preparation, or broader dossier work. The aim is not just to have a list, but to have one that is more practical, more coherent, and easier to work with as the project progresses.

WHAT THIS SERVICE INCLUDES

The client will receive a prepared cosmetic product ingredient list in the form of a Product Ingredient List Preparation Document which will contain:

  1. The correct INCI (International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient) names of all materials used or the correct CTFA (Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association) names of all materials used (if to USA regulations).
  2. What would be considered incidental ingredients (if required by regulations of the respective country)
  3. English 'common' names, where applicable, in brackets after the INCI/ CTFA name.
  4. Any known allergens present at levels above certain thresholds in the cosmetic/skincare/haircare/bodycare product.

WHAT YOU MAY LEAVE WITH

The deliverable may include a structured ingredient declaration prepared from the information supplied for the project, together with notes where clarification or correction is still required.

The outcome is a cleaner, more coherent starting point for labelling and related documentation work.

SCOPE OF INGREDIENT LIST PREPARATION

This service supports the preparation and structuring of declarations. It does not automatically include full regulatory review, nomenclature verification, or legal sign-off unless those are separately engaged.

The focus is on the preparation of the ingredient list itself.

HOW THIS SERVICE DIFFERS

This service prepares the declaration. It is used when the ingredient list needs to be assembled properly from the available information.

Where INCI Nomenclature Verification examines whether the naming itself is correct and consistent, Ingredient List Preparation focuses on building the declaration into a more coherent, usable form.

PREPARE THE DECLARATION BEFORE IT WEAKENS THE PRODUCT RECORD

Ingredient lists are not isolated technical exercises. Weak declarations, incorrect INCI names, inconsistent naming logic, allergen visibility issues, and poorly structured ingredient records can create broader instability across artwork, regulatory files, technical documentation, and consumer-facing communications.

CLOWNHAUS® provides Ingredient List Preparation support designed to strengthen declaration accuracy before weak ingredient-list control compromises stronger documentation systems.
